MARINGOTKA

The band Maringotka was formed in 2009 as a project of enthusiasts devoted to classic Django Reinhardt-style gypsy jazz. Initially performing cover versions, they gradually moved on to original compositions, resulting in their self-titled debut album Maringotka (2018). The record features compositions by guitarists Róbert Schranz and Juraj Havlík, influenced not only by gypsy swing but also by bossa nova and blues.

This was followed by several years during which the band members went their separate ways across the world (New York, Copenhagen, Berlin), while the pandemic further delayed their activity. Meanwhile, new material accumulated, and by the end of 2024 they recorded the album Maringotka II, released a year later.

Their fascination with and inspiration from gypsy jazz and bossa nova remained central, but the lineup expanded with bassist Róbert Ragan Jr. joining as a contributor, along with guest appearances by saxophonist Michaela Turcerová (who also performed on the first album) and percussionist Jakub Havlík.

Maringotka’s nomadic musical spirit fits equally well in an intimate club setting or aboard an ocean liner carrying cultural influences across the Atlantic.
