Karin Sarkisjan was born in Yerevan, Armenia, where she studied composition at the Komitas State Conservatory. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the outbreak of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, she moved to Slovakia in 1993. After spending several years in Žilina and Bratislava, she eventually settled in Martin, where she teaches at a private conservatory of music and drama.
As a composer of stage music and répétiteur, she has collaborated with the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava as well as the Slovak Chamber Theatre in Martin. Her talents as a singer and pianist have also led to guest appearances with groups such as Pressburger Klezmer Band, Balkansambel, Bashavel, Shum Davar, Pacora Trio, and Kaschauer Klezmer Band.
More recently, she collaborated with Zuzana Mikulcová on the single Sen and with James Evans and The Ladies Ensemble on a programme of Armenian songs. While deeply rooted in Armenian musical traditions, Karin Sarkisjan performs in a variety of languages, including Yiddish and Slovak, bringing a rich multicultural dimension to her artistry.
