Another zither instrument on offer at this year’s World Music Festival is presented by the South Korean musician Soona Park. It is a kayagum, which is related to the Chinese guzheng or Japanese koto. Soona was born in Japan, but was introduced to this traditional Korean instrument in elementary school and later studied it in both North and South Korea. Her performance is a combination of traditional and modern influences, sounds, tones and rhythms.
