Marek Szarvaš is a drummer and composer from Košice, whom you may also know as a member of the popular band Hrdza. In his own work, however, he focuses more on combining jazz, world music and melodic pop. Following a successful performance at the Bratislava Jazz Days in 2017, two albums featuring Marek’s original compositions have been released: Marek Szarvaš & The Rest of the World (2018) and Light Outside (2022). Several musicians and singers have contributed to these albums, including saxophonist Ján Kopčák and vocalists Susanna Jara and Veronika Harcsa.

The most consistent members of the lineup are its founder, Marek himself, and singer Darina Kompušová, who appears on both albums and is also part of the current live lineup. Another “old-new” member of the group, which is currently preparing its third official recording, is violinist Gabriel Silvay. The lineup is completed by pianist Matej Lazár and bassist Peter Frák.

In addition to the instruments mentioned above, audiences can also expect occasional excursions even further into the realm of “ethno” music, for example with the use of a handpan or the Slovak koncovka flute.
