María Moreno
SPAIN

In the photo book Yo bailo (I Dance, 2020) by Susana Giron, María Moreno writes about herself: “When I dance, I follow emotion, not thought… It is the only moment in life when I’m not pretending and I’m truly myself.”
She began dancing flamenco at the age of seventeen. After studying classical Spanish dance at the conservatory in Cádiz, she joined the dance company led by Eva Yerbabuena. Since 2017, she has been performing professionally and winning prestigious awards at dance competitions across Spain, where she stood out for her progressive technique and expressive freedom. After success at home, she made her mark on major international stages as well, such as Sadler’s Wells in London, La Villette in Paris, and the Roman theatre Baelo Claudia in Spain.
María Moreno is one of the stars of the new generation of flamenco artists, breaking down stereotypes about what “true” flamenco should look and sound like. Her style is based on deconstruction—she breaks down traditional flamenco into its smallest elements and reassembles them in ways no one has done before.
Her fans always eagerly anticipate her new programs, each one bringing something extraordinary. Her Slovak premiere, with her ensemble at the World Music Festival Bratislava, will surely be no exception—a must-see for any flamenco lover.
