Ildikó Kali Trio
SLOVAKIA
20. 9. 2025 (Saturday)
Ildikó Kali has had a rich career with numerous recordings, both as a soloist and with the group Romanika. In 2021, she released the successful solo album Zlatá panna (The Golden Maiden), inspired by the poems of Romantic-era author Ján Botto, combining 19th-century texts with modern arrangements.
Her new album Jore Jore (winner of the Radio_Head Award for Best Slovak Recording of 2024 in the World Music category) builds on Zlatá panna and draws from traditional lyrics and the poetics of folk ballads, musically transforming them into a contemporary language. Archetypal themes, the first horror story in Slovak literature, archaisms, regional dialects, intercultural connections (such as Slovak-African fusion), and Romani poetics all come together in songs enriched with natural motifs.
At the heart of the music is Ildikó’s authentic vocal expression, carrying a strong, archaic emotion. The trio performs in the following lineup:
Ildikó Kali – guitars, looper, Peter Luha – guitars, flutes, looper, Andrej Jeriga – bass guitar.
